If you’re looking for a nice contemporary fireplace, then you’ve got your work cut out for you. Not because they’re hard to find. In fact, the opposite is true. There are so many different options that you might find yourself being confused with all the choices. That’s why you need to think carefully about the different type you want before you go shopping.
The best type, in my opinion, is the electric model. These are remote controlled, easy to maintain, and extremely clean. They also provide ample heat and look beautiful. Napoleon makes them, and they make other types as well. They’re also an excellent, reliable manufacturer that I highly recommend.

There are other types, such as the traditional wood burning types. These are the kind that everyone is familiar with. These are the kind we all grew up with. But you have to try to examine them from an unbiased position. Are they just favorable because of all the fond memories they stir up? If you had never been exposed to one prior to your search, would you want one? You would probably not, unfortunately, as they’re not very good for the air. Don’t worry, though. There are plenty of better alternatives.

You can look into ventless wall mounted units that run on fuel like natural gas and propane. They can provide a very large amount of heat and they can also be free standing to mimic the look of logs. Putting a small one of these in a corner looks very good and works well, too. Don’t forget about the inserts that can go in just about any type of fireplace, as they also put out a lot of heat and give a custom feel. They can be put in any mantel, whether it is marble, wood, brick, or some other masonry material.

Also, don’t forget about all the accessories you’ll need. You should be sure to have a blower, screen, and perhaps some tools if you’re planning on installing the unit yourself. Remember too that just looking at pictures isn’t enough to find the right one for you. You need to get out there and touch them to have a good idea. Who knows, maybe the designer Victorian isn’t the right one for you. Maybe a simple black one will do.
